In 1988, while attending Spanish language school in McAllen, Texas, we, Roland and Carolyn Ashby, saw families living under plastic bags and cardboard boxes just over the border in Reynosa, Mexico.

Their homes consist of scrap wood, pallets, old bedsprings, and plastic that they salvage from nearby garbage dumps. There are no paved streets. Many areas have no water or electricity. Their diet consists of beans, rice, corn tortillas, and occasionally the meat of a chicken, which was raised in their yard. For them, life is difficult.

We began to pray and asked God what could be done. We felt that God answered immediately and said, “You can do SOMETHING”! What was the SOMETHING we could do?

Since the beginning hundreds of homes have been built. Tons of food and clothes have been given away. Teams of doctors and nurses have treated the sick. Hairdressers have cut hair. Everyone brings their God-given gift and shares it in a practical and creative way

While many children are now able to attend school through our sponsorship program called "Escuela Viva", many are still unable to continue to middle school due to the cost of transportation. This is when the dream of building a middle school in Colonia was born. Middle School is a vital time in a child's development. We aim to offer them a solid Christian education and prevent these children from being vulnerable to the cartel to recruit.

Play some golf and help us raise money to establish and maintain a state-sanctioned Christian middle school in the neighborhood where the children live.
